It's me... Clare

A self confessed messy homecook who loves a bargain, being in the kitchen and reducing food waste

Hello there! I always find the introduction part the most difficult. Writing down who I am and where to start...

I guess I would start by saying that I am 31 years old and come from a town called South Shields, which is in the North East of England, technically making me a Sanddancer and not a Geordie. We have a lot of slang up here and the one I love the most is a Whoopsie. Which, as you'll recognise, is where my account and blog gets its name, and is in part the inspiration for this page and now a way of life!

I'm a qualified counsellor and love my job, and while I spend my day listening and working with others, cooking is my therapy. I remember being in therapy myself and my counsellor asked me what I did when I was angry... "I cook", was my reply. What about when you're sad... "I cook." I basically cook when I'm happy, sad, angry, stressed and everything in between!. It takes me away from the world and offers some space to just do what I love, so to write down and document this is exciting and something I've always wanted to do, but I was a little terrified of it all too!

I'm terrible with money and always have been, and always lived way beyond my means. I enjoy expensive things in a sense but love even more being able to be extra while saving money. For example, I will always look for money off codes and top cashback deals when shopping online, as well as shopping around when looking for something in particular. Particially because I'm stubborn and love the challenge of not being beaten, but also because I really do just love a bargain.

I think part of my love of bargains comes from my Dad; thanks to him we've always gone to vintage sales (before they were more popular and so much cheaper), and charity shops. Not because we necessarily had to but because we wanted to; shopping second-hand is not only cheap and exciting but also helps the environment and charites at the same time.

I find the same joy in shopping for whoopsies; so although I'm doing it to save money, it's also so much more. I've started to really think about waste and, in turn, my lavish spending habits. I wanted to help reduce waste on a larger scale and find techniques and tips to make my own food last longer. Saving for a house has helped me gain control of my spending while in turn helping reduce my food waste and challenged me in the kitchen to see what I can create.

I'm also extremely stubborn so if something doesn't work out the first time I can't and won't stop until I achieve it (see tab on sourdough ha!)

Well if you made this far, thank you - I'm not sure I would have!! :P
